Process of Sweater Manufacturing | Step 3 of 8

7/29/2019

Hello, my friends,

We had to open a new factory in North China these months to expand our capacity. We organized 200 STOLL machines and at least 300 workers there. Besides, we also organized ten lines of knitting products like T-shirts and Hoody as almost 80% of buyers got demands not only on sweaters but also on knitting items. We do what we can to support buyers strongly. So they don't have to waste time on sourcing.
We are going to talk about the knitting program and technical file today. The right process is the technical file before the knitting program.

The technical file is a top professional job. You need at least three years of experience. First, you have to know clearly how to work based on different designs. It would help if you had a clear idea in your mind when getting designs on hand.

The logic is to match designs with incorrect yarn, correct GG, most suitable tension, easiest knitting way, and best washing solutions. It's not an easy job... There are thousands of yarns and all in different characters. It would help if you handled them in different tension, different washing way. Secondly, you have to make clear files to show: rows, needles, and increase/decrease needle actions. In step 2, we tested swatches already; now we know their shrinkage. Logic is to work out rows and needles based on the shrinkage figure.

Rows mean how many horizontal lines we have to knit, which is the length of the sweater. Needles mean how many needles we have to use when knitting, which is the width of sweaters. And we all know the sweater is not a rectangle; we have different widths at the bottom/hem, waist, chest, etc... We need to increase/decrease needle actions to control different widths on the sweater body.

This is the most important guideline for the whole process. You can imagine how important it is! All the following process has to work based on this file.

Okay, the following step is the knitting program.

The main job of a knitting program is to turn Technical files into computer language. So computer knitting machines know how to knit, what kind of pattern to knit, speed to knit.

About 16 years ago, we used a 3.5-inch floppy disk to copy the program into machines. But now USB is more popular. Maybe we will have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to connect them in the future.

The second job is to adjust machines during knitting continuously. The main purpose is to adjust machines to the best knitting condition and mark key figures for bulk. In most situations, we have to make adjustments during knitting, as most of our designs are not simple designs. We have a lot of complicated designs, like pointelle, cables, twisting, and a mixture of structures.

Please note sweater is not knitted at one time; all parts are knitted separately—Main 4 parts: front body part, back body part, sleeves, and trims. Trims mean placket, neck, cuff, and bottom. (cuff, the bottom can be knitted together with body or sleeve if possible).

We started to offer Made To Measure / Bespoke 100% Cashmere Sweaters service for both men and women. We have 350 designs and 134 cols ready on hand. MOQ 1pc only, ETD factory maximum two weeks. If interested, please check here.
