Chapter 19. How does Door to Door Shipping of Christmas Sweater work?

To get a better idea of what door to door shipping entails, allow me to give you a brief explanation. Door to door shipping is whereby the Christmas Sweater are picked from the supplier’s door and delivered at the buyer’s door. The process can be done like below;

  1. Supplier find a proper forwarder, the key point is forwarder got ability to clear Christmas Sweater at buyer's port;
  2. Supplier send cargo to export port. [Usually send to forwarder's warehouse];
  3. Forwarder arrange export process;
  4. Forwarder arrange Christmas Sweater customs clear process at buyer's port;
  5. Forwarder pay off the duty. Or buyer pay for the duty.
  6. Forwarder charge all costs to seller;
  7. Forwarder arrange local transportation to buyer's door.

We can see, that this trade term is easy for buyers but quite risky for sellers.

And forwarder takes care of the main operation processes. Actually, there are 2 professional trade terms for the above, which can be distinguished at point 5.

If the seller pays off the duty, we call it DDP, Delivery Duty Paid;

If the buyer pays off the duty, we call it DDU, Delivery Duty Unpaid.

The seller must bear all the risks and expenses of transporting the Christmas Sweaters to the designated destination, including any "taxes" that should be paid at the destination (including the responsibilities and risks of handling customs procedures, as well as the payment of handling charges, customs duties, taxes, and other fees) when customs procedures are required. Under this trade clause, the seller needs to do: a domestic trailer customs declaration, and sea transportation/air transportation to the destination port/airport. Arrange the customs clearance at the destination port (ask the foreign buyer to provide their tax number for tax payment) and then arrange the local delivery. Considering of high risk, Christmas Sweater Manufacturers usually accept small batches of cargo. Most of the suppliers accept trade terms of FOB, CIF, and CFR instead of Door to door.
